Nan Lian Garden
Nan Lian Garden is built of Tang Dynasty style, decorated with clusters of bizarre rocks and old valuable trees, and occupies the area of 3.5 hectares. It was a joint project of the Chi Lin Nunnery and Hong Kong Government and managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. You can find souvenir shops, vegetarian restaurant, Chinese tea house, and multi-purpose hall to cater all your needs.
The garden contains hills, water features, rocks, and wooden structures that will date you centuries back. A scenic and tranquil place in the highly urban area offers you serenity, away from the noisy and dusty surroundings of the city. Aside from the beautiful landscaped gardens, at the distant backdrop, you can see the mountain ranges of famous Lion Rock, Tate’s Cairn temple Hill and Kowloon Peak.
Nan Lian Garden styles adopt the Chinese tradition of “earth enclosing rocks” for the formation of hillocks. The rocks used to beautify the garden are from Sanjiang County includes Caitao rocks, Heshan rocks, Laibin rocks, Qinghua rocks, petrified trees, and hexagonal rocks. Distinctive timber structures were built resembling the Tang dynasty architecture using pavilions, bridges and the Black Lintel Gate. Nan Lian Garden is designed with intention that visitors follow a one-way route.
From the entrance of the Black Lintel Gate to Chinese Timber architecture Gallery, you can find the Banyan Grove, Pine Path South, and Lotus Pond. Past Lotus Pond on the south side is Xiang Hai Xuan (house embracing sea of fragrance) as it is surrounded by sweet scented trees. The inner rooms hold several art exhibitions, musical performances, and seminars. Few meters away is the blue pond stocked with koi and other water features that allow you to relax and enjoy. By crossing on the Pavilion Bridge you will be greeted by The Mill and Silver Strand waterfall, Long Men Mou, and Song Cha Xie. The Light of Enlightenment Statue and fountain and Nan Lian Rocks at the foot of the bridge linking the garden to the Chi Lin Nunnery on the opposite site of the road will fascinate you.
You can visit the beautiful Nan Lian Garden at 60 Fung Tak Road, Diamond Hill, Kowloon from 7:00am to 9:00pm. Take MTR Kwun Tong Line to Diamond Hill station and exit in C2, then about 5 minutes walk. Admission is free.
